Getting Your First Job: Where to Start

No experience? No problem.

Everyone starts somewhere, and your first job doesn’t have to be forever. It’s about getting your foot in the door, building skills, and proving you can show up and learn.

Start by making a simple, clear resume. No fancy design needed, just your name, contact info, school achievements, volunteer work, or even hobbies that show you’re reliable. Add a short section about your strengths; things like communication, time management, or tech skills (yes, TikTok counts if it’s for a brand).

Then, apply everywhere. Retail, hospitality, supermarkets, cafes; even if they’re not your dream job, they’ll help build your confidence and give you references for the future.

A few tips:

  • Walk into places and introduce yourself with a smile.

  • Follow up after applying (it shows initiative!)

  • Be polite, be punctual, and be open to learning.

Remember: your attitude matters more than your experience. Every job teaches you something, and showing you're willing to learn is the best first step you can take.
